I’ve decided to make an exchange. Tags turn into categories, categories turn into tags. Why?

Under my old design, tags spread way too far down the page, meaning, I had to include the 12 latest entries on the front page – which is way too many. Unfortunately, there is no way to condense these links into a drop down menu. There is an option for this under categories however. So, using the tag converter, i’ve turned all the “countries” into tags. They were kind of, anyway.

Over the next few days/weeks (there are over 350 posts, so it could take a while), i’ll gradually convert all the former tags into categories, meaning they can feature as a drop down menu, and furthermore under a hierarchy system. I can therefore have my intended 3-5 new entries on each page, as well as make everything neater.

Furthermore, there is a slightly extra degree of privacy involved. There’s always the chance some people i’ve tagged would rather not appear so blatantly on my blog page. Now they are concealed slightly within the drop down menu.

There is one possible negative consequence of all this. I haven’t quite figured out yet whether tags also appear in the wordpress category section. A large proportion of my hits were coming from my travel category – several of my posts became “featured posts” and attracted a lot of views.

So, I may lose some views, but quite honestly, i’d prefer to have it looking good.

One last thing: the above cut photographs. I’ve never decided whether the thin ones or longer, fuller photo’s were better. I guess, with 10-12 entries per page, the slimmer the better. But now that I am reverting back to 3-5 entries per page, perhaps big can make a return.
